25/02/10 Amending, For The Purposes Of Adapting To Scientific & Technical Progress, The Annex To Directive 2002/95/Ec Of The Eu As Regards Exemption For An Application Of Cadmium

Adapting to scientific & technical progress the Annex to Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS) on exemptions for application of cadmium, the Commission has concluded that it was not yet technically practicable to substitute cadmium in colour-converting II-VI LEDs without seriously deteriorating the performance. Certain materials & components containing cadmium should therefore be exempted from the prohibition. However, research on cadmium free technology is in progress & substitutes should become available within the next 4-5 years at the latest.
