Cumbria Crystal create martini stirring glasses out of Sipsmith gin bottles

Cumbria Crystal has been involved in a special repurposing project alongside gin brand Sipsmith, London.

The British Glass member has created bespoke martini stirring glasses from 120 empty Sipsmith bottles to breathe new life into the container that would have been recycled in the usual manner.

To begin the process of making the glasses, firstly the top third of the bottles were cracked off by scoring the glass and introducing a flame to the scored line in order to shock the glass and make the unwanted glass breakaway.

The edge is smoothed and heated to 600oC in heating chamber, before heat is focuses on the rim with a gas torch in order to hand form a pouring lip. The glasses are then cooled overnight in an annealing kiln to finish the process.

Cumbria’s glasses can be purchased from the Sipsmith website either individually or as part of a cocktail set.
