British Glass urges a collaborative spirit at Edinburgh summit

Taking place in Edinburgh on 24 November, The Spirits Summit aims to inform and inspire designers and manufacturers of spirits packaging about the key issues they face today – and glass has an important role to play.

British Glass will be at the summit representing the UK glass packaging’s contribution to building brands and helping customers meet functional, supply, design and sustainability goals.

Rebecca Cocking, head of container affairs at British Glass said:

"Glass is the perfect packaging for the spirit sector when it comes to positioning premium products and meeting their own and customers’ sustainability expectations. Glass is infinitely recyclable – it doesn’t lose quality however many times it’s re-melted. Yet, at the moment, around 55% of post-consumer glass waste doesn’t get re-melted back to glass – it’s lost to aggregate, landfill or incineration. That doesn’t serve brands or glass manufacturers’ needs."

Glass recycling reduces CO2 emissions, saves energy and drives down costs – benefitting everyone. Through The Spirit’s Summit, British Glass will be talking to people from across the supply chain to talk about how the glass industry can work collaboratively to close the loop on glass recycling.

Rebecca Cocking said:

"We’re looking forward to hearing from the spirits sector to learn more about their priorities and challenges. We’re in listening mode and we want to know what our industry can do to ensure glass continues to be part of the spirit sectors’ packaging strategy."

Anyone working with glass packaging as a brand, packer/filler, retailer, waste processor or manufacturer can get involved by speaking to Rebecca at the summit or visiting www.britglass.org.uk/closetheloop to find out more.
