AMETEK Land to present on furnace optimisation at Glass Problems Conference

AMETEK Land, one of the world’s leading glass industry temperature measurement specialists, has announced that its glass sector lead, Mark Bennett, and consultant Neil Simpson of Simpson Combustion and Energy, will speak at the 78th Conference on Glass Problems (GPC), 6-9 November 2017 in Columbus, USA.

Mark Bennett and Neil Simpson will present Use of continuous infrared temperature image to optimise furnace operations during the technical session on modelling, sensors and furnace design. Their presentation will look at temperature measurement at critical locations in the glass production process, and how it is essential for efficient control and optimization of glass manufacture and processing.

They will explain AMETEK Land’s innovative thermal imaging solution - Near Infrared Borescope (NIR-B) Glass, for furnace applications. This provides a true-temperature radiometric image, so live temperature values can be obtained from 324,000 pixels, and continuous coverage provided 24/7. It will describe how the solution allows long-term data trending for product quality and fuel optimisation, enabling thermal optical profiles to be measured continuously, specifically during furnace reversal.

Mark Bennett said:

“We are pleased to be part of the 78th Conference on Glass Problems, now the largest glass manufacturing conference in North America, to support professionals responsible for the successful operation of glass manufacturing companies in solving current technical issues.

“We look forward to showing how a leading container glass manufacturer has used this infrared temperature measurement solution to highlight issues within a glass melt tank, enable the end-users to make necessary repairs and then optimise firing to achieve new record pull rates on an asset nearing the end of its campaign.”

In addition, the presentation considers how alarms and temperature isotherms provide the manufacturer with long-term asset protection against over-heating and condensation zones. Neil will show that on the combustion side, clear correlations have been identified between indicative flame intensity and corresponding NOx, allowing these findings to be used, potentially, as part of emission and NOx reduction programmes.

AMETEK Land also plans to exhibit its new Near Infrared Borescope (NIR-B) Glass at the Conference on Glass Problems and demonstrate the in-furnace thermal imaging system on Stand 3.
