In 2014 the UK glass industry, coordinated by British Glass, began to explore the overall potential for decarbonisation of industrial scale glass making, and how this could be achieved. It set out to create a roadmap to create a low-carbon and prosperous glass manufacturing sector in the UK by 2050.

This 59-page report examines the improvement potential across recycling, energy, raw materials, process technologies, product design and other areas such as carbon capture and storage and offsetting.

Glass has a key role to play in creating a sustainable economy. This report concludes that meaningful collaboration between industry, government, academia and the full glass supply chain is necessary to achieve the desired level of CO2 emission reductions.
