Japan Announces Ban On Incandescent Light Bulbs

Japan has joined the growing number of nations that have announced bans on incandescent light bulbs. Japan's ban goes into effect in 2012. The world's first nation to impose the ban was Australia. Soon Ireland, Canada and the USA also jumped on the band wagon. Industry analysts predict that the bans will create increased demand for fluorescents, compact fluorescents and eventually, as their prices drop and brightness increases, LED-based lighting.
