In June, British Glass sponsored the Glass and Ceramic Zone at the graduate design event New Designers 2004 held at the London Business Design Centre in Islington from 30 June until 4 July.
British Glass also supported the event with the creation of a new glass design and technology award - the New Designers British Glass Award - which also provided the sum of £1,000 to enable a designer to continue their work in the belief that innovation is vital to sustain development as well as glass being the perfect material for new design ideas.
New Designers, a forum for graduate designers to show off their fresh ideas and exciting new work, brings together around 4,000 graduates from across all the major disciplines, including glass.

The British Glass Award was presented by David Workman, Director General of British Glass to Benedetta Giuliani (pictured) from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design for her work she entitled "a superficial bowl".
Martyn Marshall, principal glass technologist at Glass Technology Services as one of the Judges for British Glass, commented: "We were looking for innovation and a new use of a traditional material. There was some tremendous work on show so choosing a winner was very difficult.
"The criteria we set meant we wanted to recognise an innovative new idea that saw a different perspective using the unique qualities of glass, but combining all of these elements with technical knowhow.
"Benedetta had used a number of complementary forming techniques, gathering coloured and clear hot use, using the implicit point of breakage to develop a unique article, before screen printing to give her work a versatile, modern finish. This is a process which we feel provides modern glassware with a real future."
